The Four Seasons

For the letter S week we focused on seasons of the year as our theme. Each day we learned about a different season and what happens during that time of year.
On Monday we started off with an overview of the seasons.
Spring...

 Summer...

 Fall...

 and Winter!

We learned that the sun is the reason for the seasons!

Arthur's sun turned out pretty firey!

Tuesday was all about Spring, so we made this friendly paper caterpillar!

We did an experiment to test how flowers depend on water to survive. We started with two white carnations, each in its own glass of water.

Then we added red food coloring to one glass and blue to the other. We set them aside to check back on throughout the day and week.

Daddy got to join us for one of our crafts this week. Arthur made his own growing flower!

Here's a look at the seasons trees collage once it had dried.

Our flowers were already looking less white by the end of the day!

And by the next morning we could really tell that they had been drinking up a lot of colored water!

Our Summer day prompted watermelon painting and sand art!

We also made this great bubble machine with an old butter tub, a straw and some soapy water.
Summer wouldn't be complete without bubbles!

Little Miss crafty! I have to make sure that Arthur's supply turnabout is not within her reach unless she has something in front of her that needs coloring besides the kitchen table!

Fall was great fun! Probably because I am really looking forward to this season right now, these crafts certainly got me in the mood for some cooler weather!

Arthur helped me paint this tree and then they set to work 'stamping' it full of apples!

 Stella loves to sign apple!

Before we finished Fall Arthur assembled his own scarecrow.

They were buddies for the rest of the day!

Winter came at the end of our week with lots of snowy crafts.
Arthur played a letter matching game with snowmen that had lost their hats in a blizzard!

Learning about the seasons helped to make our S week extra special!
