Exploring a rainbow

Here is our R week! We talked all about rainbows and learned some really interesting facts about what makes a rainbow. Did you know that if you were in an airplane and flew through a rainbow it would appear as a complete circle instead of just an arch in the sky?

In honor of rainbows we did some really fun and colorful crafts this week!
We made a scented rainbow with jello powder in all the right colors.

This was especially fun because some of the jello flavors looked white instead of colored, but once we added it to the wet glue the color really came through!

One of the other things we focused on this week was rhymes. We talked about what makes a rhyme and brushed up on some fun rhyming words with preschool games.

Arthur loves any craft that involves gluing cotton balls onto paper so his cloud was especially fluffy!

This was probably Arthur's favorite craft because I let him eat a few of the Fruit Loops in the process.

I found an idea online to make rainbow colored pancakes. So we made breakfast for lunch and Arthur helped to dye the batter.
We had a lot of fun!

We learned all about rhinos and after reading about how they love to wallow in the mud we decided to make our own muddy rhinos!

I mixed a bit of oats and sand into some brown paint and we had instant finger painting mud.

Stella was pretty delicate about it all and ended up with more on her than on the rhino.

Arthur's rhino on the other hand was a real mud lover!

Here are some shots of the final product from our pancake dying adventures! A rainbow of pancakes!

 The kids really loved it!
And I am too much of a lady to describe the color of their bm's for the several days following this food dye extravaganza, but lets just say it was not normal!

 Arthur and his rhino horn!

This rainbow craft was fun and really helped practice using glue in appropriate amounts! We ended up with a really neat 3-D rainbow!

This was our science experiment that ended up being in two parts. With water, raisins, baking soda, and vinegar you can make raisins dance! Unfortunately I didn't have the right kind of vinegar so our raisins didn't dance, but we staged it again a few days later and finally had success!

Eat a rainbow! This was the food rainbow we made as we talked about how fruits and vegetables are every color of the rainbow and they each have their own set of nutrients that our body needs!

We celebrated the end of our rainbow week with a rainbow style fruit pizza.

 We love the letter R!!
