This year for Mother's Day I decided- or rather, Arthur decided- that I would get to be a real mother! And so, after 48 long hours of labor, in the wee morning hours of Sunday May 11th, Arthur Richard Davey was born at 8 lbs 15 ounces 21 inches long, and our lives will never be the same! Words cannot convey the joy and exhaustion that we felt as we gazed at our little boy in those first few moments. It ended all too quickly though as they soon discovered some fluid that had become trapped in Arthur's lungs during delivery and he was whisked away to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. Our hearts ached for our baby boy and we wished that we could be with him to hold and comfort him, but we knew that he was in good hands. Karin's mom Carla had flown up from Texas to be here for Arthur's birth and we were so glad to have her there in the delivery room offering so much love and support, we don't know what we would have done without her and the rest of our family and friends that came to visit Arthur during his stay in the NICU. Seven days later (the longest seven days of our lives!) our little peanut was able to come home! Although time has passed, I am sure that we will never be able to look back on those first few days and the challenges they brought without feeling an immense gratitude for our happy and healthy little boy. Chris' mom Anne decided to fly over from England to spend our first week at home together with us. She was such a huge help and Arthur loved getting to know his 'glam-ma'. It is an incredible blessing to finally be parents and we are having so much fun watching Arthur grow and change from day to day that we wanted to share this journey with you all- enjoy!
