We'll Weather the Weather Whatever the Weather!

For our letter W week we studied all about weather and learned a lot! From clouds and wind, to rain, snow, ice, tornadoes and hurricanes- it was wild!
I must have been making up for the previous week, because I took a lot of pictures of our weather studies. So believe it or not this doesn't include all of the activities that we did, but you get the idea!

 Cloud counting with cotton balls!

 Learning how clouds make rain.

We did some cloud painting with loofahs from the dollar store, it was really fun to use such an unconventional 'paint brush'.

Wind racing! Who can blow their cotton ball cloud across the finish line first?

I decided to switch around a couple of our days' activities this week because we woke up to this...

 SNOW!!!

 Homemade snowflakes!

I froze colored ice cubes with Popsicle sticks to make these 'ice paint-sicles'.

I also froze a few small plastic dinosaurs each in their own ice cube so we could play a game of who can free their dino by melting the ice the fastest?
As soon as I said 'GO' Chris stuffed his ice cube in his mouth and chewed out his dino in about 2 seconds. The kids thought it was hilarious!

True to form, Arthur was a bit more scientific about it all. First he tried squeezing it...

 then he sucked on it...

then he had the idea that if he put it in a cup of warm water it might melt the ice faster. Wow! Very clever Arthur! The ice melted much quicker in the water so we were able to make some scientific deductions about why.

Ivory soap in the microwave turned into...

 snow!

The best activity we did was making a snow scene for Arthur's trucks to work in. This is just a pan pull of Epsom Salt.

Cream cheese + yellow food coloring + 1 rice cake + pretzel sticks= edible sunshine!

 Learning about the water cycle.

 Cloud in a jar.

 Making it rain!

 Tornado in a bottle!
