A Dino party

Arthur's birthday party was a blast. I loved putting it all together and the kids all seemed to have a good time, so it was a success! Of course our theme was dinosaurs and thanks to the internet and a few of my own kooky ideas we pulled it off! My plan was to take pictures of the the party all set up before the kids started arriving, but to be honest I didn't finish setting it all up until well after the first guests arrived! We had the party at a park and set up in one of the pavilions.

A couple of the activities were digging for dinosaurs...

 and decorating dinosaurs.
I made the 'brontosaurus' hats for all the kids so that when they arrived they got to choose a hat and we wrote their name on it so that they could all take theirs home with them after the party.

I'm pretty sure this is the only picture that included the balloons. They were so fun and added such great color to the party! We had four tables and a bunch of these balloons were tied up on each one.
You can see the dino treat bags for each kid to take home after the party.

 Our dinosaur digging site!

The first party game we played involved water balloons and the kids had a great time with them! Chris was a big dinosaur guarding a 'nest' of eggs (laundry basket full of small water balloons) so the kids had to start at the other end of the grass and try to sneak up and steal eggs from his nest to take back to their nest without breaking them.
Chris' only defense against these egg thieves was tickling!

The best part was that after all of the eggs had been safely transported back to the kids' nest they got to throw them at the big dinosaur! Most of them had surprisingly good aim and Chris ended up getting a bit more wet than he thought he would!

The next game was good old fashioned tug of war- with a dinosaur twist. The red blanket was the hot lava and the kids were trying to pull each other in to it!

We wrapped things up with a few rounds of red light, green light dinosaur style, and dino musical chairs.

It was so fun to watch the kids get involved in the games and it was a perfectly beautiful day for running around at the park!

Of course our food had to be on theme as well, so we had a big pitcher of green swamp water to drink.

The guacamole was labeled 'herbivore dip', the tortilla chips were 'stegosaurus spikes', and the bowl full of Bugles were called 'dino toe nails'!

Chris helped me create this watermelon T-rex- isn't it great?

Our cake master, Great Grandma Betty was there to add the final dino touches to the birthday cake.

I love how even the shyest kids that can't be enticed by games or food flock around as soon as the presents start opening! It is so cute to see all those excited faces peering together!

Each kid got to blow out their own little candle on a cupcake while Arthur took care of the ones on the birthday cake.

Check out those cheeks! I'm pretty sure he got them all in one breath!

We had such a blast! Thanks so much to all our great friends for coming to celebrate with us and helping to make this such a special and memorable birthday for Arthur!
