Our letter J week met with some resistance, or perhaps I should just say that it didn't go as planned. We started the letter two weeks ago, but only got through Wednesday and by Thursday Arthur was burning up with fever. As it turns out he had the flu, which basically meant that he felt awful and kept running a high fever constantly for five days. Once the fever finally came down for good we were a week behind and still needed several days of recovery for Arthur. So, needless to say, we took a long week to finish the letter J slowly while Arthur worked on getting his appetite back and energy back. We didn't get to do all the things I had planned for this letter, but all things considered I am just grateful we made it through!
I think one of the highlights for Arthur was the day we learned all about jellyfish. Arthur has always loved jellyfish so it was fun to learn some new things about this silly creature with the help of some great library books. He loved our craft of making his own jellyfish!
Attaching the jellyfish 'legs'.
Ta da! This paper sea creature was Arthur's favorite friend for the rest of the day. Every where we went that day Arthur showed off his jellyfish creation and shared a factoid about jellyfish with anyone he met.
We also had a lot of fun playing some jumping games! I would say words beginning with different letters and every time I said a word starting with the letter j they jumped!
We also got to visit one of Arthur's favorite places- Jump on It!
You can't really see it in this picture very well, but Arthur is trying to jump rope here.
Chris and Stella took turns holding the ends and 'slivering; the jump rope snake for Arthur to jump over.
Making Jeep prints!
Once Arthur was down sick all we really ended up doing for our letter were some 'jigsaw' puzzles. They ended up being the perfect quiet activity for a boy at home with the flu!
We started dying some dried pasta to use later in a jewelry making activity.
I found a template online for making a jet from a styrofoam plate.
I think this had to be one of the highlights of the week for me. Our place on the map for this letter was Jamaica, so we spent one afternoon listening to reggae music after learning about the country. Here is Arthur jamming out to Bob Marley. These still shots don't even come close to doing justice to his smokin' dance moves! We were blown away!
After our pasta was dyed Arthur used it to string some pretty jewelry.
By the time we finished J we once again had a (mostly) healthy boy! It was a rocky letter, but we made it! Here's to K going as planned!
