Aye yei, yei, yei! (or I is for inchworm)

Last week we worked on the letter 'I'. I had no idea how many fun things you can incorporate for this letter. I must admit I underestimated the power of I.
Most of our theme for the week centered around inchworms, and boy were they fun! I made these wriggly inchworms of different lengths with green ric rac and googly eyes.

We had read some fun books about inchworms, so after sorting them by size, we starting finding things to measure!
Arthur measured things on the playground by inchworm lengths and we saw that different lengths of inchworms were better for measuring different sizes of objects.

Then we measured our inchworms and talked about how to use a ruler to measure in inches.

Arthur found this leaf to measure and thought that the two tiny holes in the leaf must have been made by a very hungry inchworm!

File folder fun time!
I found this sensory box activity idea on a fun preschool website. Its a small plastic tub full of leftover Easter grass. I hid small wiggly inchworms made from green pipe cleaners in the grass and Arthur used his magnet wand to 'find' them!

Next we learned about igloos. We had some great stories about igloos from the library! In one of the books there was a picture of an igloo lit up from the inside with a lamp so all you could see in the dark night was the soft orange glow of the light through the cracks between ice blocks. So when I asked Arthur to draw on this igloo picture what he would want his igloo to look like, if he lived in one, I loved that he colored in between the ice blocks to look like lamp light. He also added some animal friends and a sled out front!
Then came the moment Arthur had been waiting for- making his own igloo! First we started with a few ingredients: white frosting, an empty yogurt tub, and marshmallows!!

Our finished product turned out pretty nice!

The best thing about it was how tasty it was!

We had another day where we made musical instruments. Arthur filled empty plastic Easter eggs with different items- rice, dried beans, pasta, and pennies- and then we experimented with how the sounds were different in each egg.

 Our little band!!

The animal we learned about this week was the iguana. After a few library books on the subject we spent the afternoon pretending to be iguanas crawling over rocks and lounging in the sun...well Arthur was mostly in charge of the crawling part, and I did really well at lounging!

This was my favorite craft of the week! We talked about how inchworms like to hide in the grass from birds so they don't get eaten, then we made this craft from that same cute preschool website. Using a plastic fork Arthur painted 'grass' on top of our letter i inchworm. I love how it turned out!

To kick off the week we had an inchworm hunt outside on the playground where I had hidden some paper inchworms.

Arthur decided that the best way to find inchworms in the grass was to get nose to nose with the ground, just like a bird!
Once we found them all Arthur sorted them out into uppercase and lower case letter worms and glued them onto this grass printed scrapbook paper.

One of the books we really enjoyed reading this week!
As you can tell, we had a lot of fun with the letter i. We hope you all had an INCREDIBLE week!
