Lately Arthur has begun to master the workings of the VCR and DVD player. He loves the idea that you can pause a movie and come back to it and it will be in exactly the same place that you left it, so he never has to miss a thing! A couple of weeks ago I found myself once again in the familiar position of trying to 'transition' Arthur out of an activity that he wanted to do and into one that I needed him to do, ie playing trains when I need him to be putting his shoes and coat on so we can get out the door. I found myself saying to him, "Arthur, let's push pause on your trains and then we can play them again as soon as we get back!" Surprisingly, it stuck! He loved the idea of pushing a pretend pause button on what he was doing and felt reassured knowing that they would be in just the same place that he left them in when he was ready to play again.
Blame it on overactive sentimental pregnancy hormones, but this got me to thinking about how sometimes I wish I could have a live pause button of my own, then I could take a break and know that when I come back everything will be just as I left it. Sadly, one day Arthur and I will both have to learn that there is no pause button for life.
So what are the kinds of things that I would pause if I could?
Arthur singing songs at the top of his lungs all through breakfast; his current favorites- I am a child of God, Life could be a dream (from Disney's Cars), Old MacDonald had a farm, and Book of Mormon stories, with several others thrown in the rotation from time to time to keep things interesting!
Pulling freshly washed brand new baby girl clothes from the dryer, folding them and putting them neatly in her dresser, awaiting the day that she arrives!
Arthur with flour from nose to toes as he gets distracted from helping me bake by creating a 'building site' in my bowl full of flour.
Chris and Arthur playing together everyday and hearing them both crack each other up.
Feeling the squirming, poking, twirling that means my baby girl is growing and healthy and can't wait to join our fun!
Having Chris home so much during the week. He teaches three classes at UVU right now, and although he has been searching for months for a second part time job to supplement our lives with, nothing has surfaced so far. Despite our growing frustration with this, it is such a blessing to have him at home with us every day for lunch and play time and to get him all to ourselves on the days that he doesn't teach!
Lounging on the couch reading a book after Arthur is asleep and my day has officially ended!
I know that these moments will all pass and mostly all too quickly I'm sure, but right now I am trying to enjoy every second of them. Maybe that's why I haven't taken the time to update my blog in so long! The month of January was a snowball of activity for us that found us moving to Utah and feeling like we were starting our lives all over again! Because of the whirlwind that only now seems to be slowing down I haven't been taking many pictures lately. But we love you all, near and far and hope you are all well! I won't make any promises for the month of March, except to welcome our baby girl and, hopefully, snap a few more pictures!
