December in Austin

I went back to the States in December for two weeks and got to spend most of that time in Austin with my mom. I had to take care of a few things for my UK Visa, so I flew into Las Vegas and stayed with our really good friends the Lainharts for a couple of days at the start of my trip. I got to snuggle their adorable baby boy while I was there and spend some much needed time 'BFF' time with BreighAn! Thanks for the late night chats and shopping trips!
Luckily they lent my their camera to take with me to Austin so I was able to take a few pictures of mom and I. We spent a lot of time getting her ready for Christmas! We dusted off the old tree, and after only a few minor disasters and a trip to Garden Ridge we managed to bring new life and sparkle to it!
Mom was feeling very festive as we blasted Christmas music and twirled the tinsel.

On Sunday we got all dressed up for church, Mom wore the new sweater and jewelry that the kids helped me pick out for her Christmas present. Looking gorgeous!

We had some beautiful sunny days while I was there, although it was a bit chilly. One of the biggest struggles for mom is maintaining a good body temperature- she gets cold very easily and then has a hard time getting warm again. So, if the chapel is especially drafty she gets miserable pretty quickly. We didn't make it through all of sacrament meeting, but she did get to see the primary children sing some Christmas songs!

She let me know one afternoon that she wanted to bake Christmas cookies to deliver to her neighbors. So we got to work on these adorable sugar cookies turned reindeers!

For weeks mom had been telling dad that she wanted to get her hair cut short, but he was putting it off. Mom has gorgeous curls, but they often end up in the way of her head rest or being tugged on as they move her from chair to bed and back. It took a little while to convince dad to take us to the hair dressers, but we made it there in the end and she got this great cut!
She was really happy and rocked her short hair!

It was so wonderful to have lots of time with her! We read 4 novels and even then felt like we could have done one more! We watched girly Christmas romances on the Hallmark channel, we jammed to Christmas tunes and did Christmas shopping. It was hard to leave, but I knew that I had to get back to my family and my mommy duties. I am counting the weeks until I can go back and spend time with her again!

Mom is the queen of silly faces.

Together forever!

Love you mom!
