I love Halloween! It is such a beautiful time of year and such a fun holiday! Unfortunately, England isn't so fond of it. I have heard so many different takes on Halloween from the people here- all the way from being all out morally opposed to it to just not caring enough to celebrate it. So when I started inviting friends over for a kid friendly Halloween party I did it with much trepidation! In spite of it all we actually had a great Halloween, and even convinced our ward to hold their first ever Trunk or Treat this year! It was a lot of fun- which is really more than I was beginning to hope for.
Arthur decided to be a pirate for Halloween, so of course Stella immediately asked to be a "girl pirate"!
Some of our spooky homemade decorations! I really had to tone down the party for fear of traumatizing all of the guests so a few friendly ghosts, pumpkins, and bats were all that made the cut.
Oh, and an enormous spider web of course! This had to be the only day of the year that I really liked that the carpet in our living room is black- it was totally on theme!
I just had to include this picture- can you see that he is only wearing one sock? When I questioned Arthur about it he said that was his peg leg. Of course- why didn't I think of that!
A few spooky snacks...
We played some really fun games, but sadly my camera battery died shortly after we started the party. So, I missed a few games while it was charging- darn! I really wanted evidence to prove how much fun they all had, but I can say that at the end of the party one of the kids (a 7 year old might I add) said to his mom, "this was the best Halloween party ever!" Yes!! One point for Halloween! Maybe fewer people will be frightened next year when I invite them to our party.
I just have to say that when I served these desserts one of the dads who was there asked about what RIP means. After I explained it and he realized they were little 'pudding' graves he just put his head in his hands and moaned. He is french though, so I decided to just let him have his moment!
Three little girls learning how to do the skeleton dance!
Thank goodness for Trunk or Treats!
It took some real convincing to get Arthur to go to this trunk for candy! He just didn't think it would be worth it!
