H is for house

Last week we learned the letter H for preschool. We checked out lots of books about houses around the world from our library. We read about some very interesting types of houses. Arthur decided he liked the floating island houses best, so he could go fishing anytime he wants! We talked about cave homes, straw homes, ice homes, tree homes, and 'water' homes. Country homes and city homes, fancy homes and simple homes. After reading this story about log cabins Arthur got to make his own edible version!

Before we started on our 'homes around the world' day I asked Arthur to draw a picture of his 'dream' house. This is what he came up with...

He drew a den home that he can share with a kangaroo (see the kangaroo in the middle?). Then he added some logs around the edge of the den to strengthen it.

Beginning construction on our log cabin...

We used peanut butter for cement.

 The cement was yummy!

 Laying each log carefully.

Stella was a big fan of the peanut butter as well!

 Our finished product!

We also talked about healthy eating habits, and why choosing healthy foods is so important for our bodies.

Arthur made a balanced plate meal from grocery ads....

And then he enjoyed taking a few 'bites'!

 Handwriting.

One of our other crafts was making a funny hair person with yarn.

We had a great week! There were some other activities this week involving hearts and hippos, but apparently not all of the pictures have been uploaded from the camera yet. Until next time!

You have so many great ideas! I just started the "letter of the week" curriculum for a preschool co-op I'm doing with Elijah and a few neighborhood friends. We have had two days so far, and I'm learning. You've give me some great ideas for being more age-appropriate and crafty!
