Green Bottom!

I have been meaning to post about our recent love of cloth diapers, but months have gone by and here we are hundreds of diaper changes later and I just want you all to know that we LOVE cloth diapers!
So it all started when I was pregnant with Arthur and something came up one day about cloth diapers- how they are so economical, environmentally friendly, easy to use, ect...so I sat down at my little computer and not knowing anything about modern day cloth diapering I typed "cloth diapers" into Google and hit 'search'. What happened next? Well, as you might imagine I spent the better part of that afternoon trying to wade through oodles of information on cloth diapering and finally ended my search with a headache and a firm resolve to stick to what I knew and that was disposable diapers.
It was a good decision for us at the time, our first baby came along and instead of trying to figure out cloth we spent our time figuring out other little things like 'how on earth do we raise a baby?!', with the addition of much unforeseen traveling over the first two and a half years of his life. Now, fast forward to a few months ago and there I am at Costco doing my shopping and I'm about to head down the diaper aisle to spend something that feels like a small vacation fund on diapers (again!) when I noticed a booth with cloth diapers on display. It looked familiar to a small part of my brain and I realized that I had so many questions about cloth diapers that I never found an answer to in that terrible Google search from long ago. So, not being one to move on easily from disappointment I strolled over with the intention of unloading on the sales lady the better part of three years of curiosity.
To summarize: I got the answers I needed, we bought the diapers from Costco, we hated how they fit nevertheless this led us to do more research on the subject and after thoroughly looking into things, trying several brands, and talking to women who actually use cloth diapers we found the ones we wanted and have loved it ever since.
The pros: They are so cute, easy, and surprisingly convenient to use. They are super friendly to the environment (i.e. life without hauling bags full of smelly diapers to the trash every day and imagining how many land fills we are helping to max out!) They are incredibly cost effective, we are saving a lot of money (so that vacation fund might actually be used to go on vacation instead of next month's diaper supply!), we never have to buy another diaper for Stella again thanks to the one-size cloth diaper option. No more blow outs, no more leaks. Big difference in diaper rash occurrence! I hear that cloth diaper babies potty train sooner to boot!
The cons: Yes you do more laundry (but let's be honest, what's one more load of laundry?), but its not like you wash them by hand. Yes, they are a bit bulkier, but what baby bottom doesn't look even more adorable with a little padding?!
I really don't have anything bad to say about them thus far. I know that things will be a little different as Stella gets older and poop gets well, more poop-like, but it is amazing what they have come up with in the cloth diaper world these days!
Ok, I know sometimes I can go for weird things, but I'm here to say that if you have ever had an inkling to try them, or even if you just can't imagine why on earth anyone would want to use them- take some time to poke around online, or talk to someone who uses them (there are a lot of them out there!) and ask yourself if it really is so weird after all! Who knows, you might be next... ;)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!! I cannot say enough about my cloth diapers. I have not started clothing Cody, but soon. My diaper budget seems to get smaller with every kid.
