Rome

The Vatican- St. Peter's Basilica

More Vatican
We didn't stand in the enormously long line to actually go inside any of the Vatican buildings, but we wandered around outside with all of the other cheap tourists!

Cheap tourist alley

Here it is- drum roll please.....the Colosseum!

It is difficult to capture the real scope and breadth of the Colosseum with a camera, it is simply massive and quite breathtaking!

Chris and Arthur with all the other tourists.

Here we are again- taking the cheap way out and not going inside. We kept talking about 'some day' when we come back when we are older and don't have a two year old to entertain we will do all the inside tours and take as long as we want to stand in line!

There were other Roman ruins around the Colosseum that we didn't explore too closely- one more thing on our list to do when we go back.

And as always, you can't have a major tourist attraction without the locals dressed in costume trying to heckle money from the passerby.
These 'Gladiators' were especially energetic and always willing to take a picture with you for a small fee. I love that this little boy was dressed in costume to tour the Colosseum- he deserved a cute picture!

And of course, Arthur's favorite part was not the impressive attraction, but something completely different- in this case the horses and carriages parked outside.

He was more than happy to stand by the horses and watch them- what a smile on that little boy face!
