Arthur and I have been frequenting the library much more than usual lately. They have a wonderful play area in the children's section and Arthur loves meeting new friends there. One of my goals while living in England is to make use of the well stocked 'classic literature' section to get to know a few new authors. Jane Austen and I have been at odds for years now, ever since I attempted to read Pride and Prejudice and couldn't bear to drag myself past the first chapter. The magic just wasn't there for me. Hoping that our recent shift in geography might make me more susceptible to becoming a fan of hers I dubiously picked through the AUS section at the library. And well....butter my butt and call me biscuit (that was for you Danny!) now I can't keep myself away from them! So this is my list of classics so far along with a few others I've been reading.

I adore Austen, but I have to tell you, I can't stand Wuthering Heights. And I've read it twice, thinking that surely I must have missed something the first time. Nope. Hated it both times. What did you think of A Thousand Splendid Suns? I've read The Kite Runner, and that was beautifully written but tough to read. I'd like to hear what you thought of his second book. England was where I got into the classics as well. I would often stop and pick up the one pound classics that they have at the bookstores there. I built up quite a library that way.
Hey Chelsey,
I highly recommend A Thousand Splendid Suns! I read Kite Runner as well and was very moved by his writting. I have to say though that Splendid Suns was a tougher read in my opinion- never has the phrase 'heart wrenching' been more appropriate to apply to a novel. But do read it- it is well worth the heartache in the end, it is a beautiful story! (but then again I enjoyed Wuthering Heights, so you might want another opinion on this!)
