Oh My, Monsters!

Yesterday we celebrated Arthur's cousin Seth's first birthday! The party was great and had a really cute 'little monsters' theme! Since the weather has been very bleak here lately, all the adults and about 20 children were crammed inside the house for the party. Although it got a bit stuffy at times, we had a blast! Most of the kids wore costumes to the party and they all looked adorable, even though the costumes were shed for lighter layers once the capacity of the house reached its limit! I made a cookie monster costume for Arthur with some really great bright blue fur material that I found at the local craft store. I stitched on it off and on for two weeks and although he was curious about it, Arthur refused to have anything to do with the blue fur and wouldn't come near it- much less let me try it on him. I thought that a simple hooded vest with googly eyes on top wouldn't be too intimidating for a two year old, but as the party drew near I had to begin to accept the idea that Arthur may never wear it and no one would ever even see it! Luckily, a few sesame street episodes and cookie monster songs later, Arthur was primed to make a batch of cookies with Daddy on the morning of the party and as long as he had a cookie in his hand he was willing to debut his costume with much gusto once we arrived! We opted for just his monster t-shirt as the temperature rose throughout the party, but at least I got some good pictures beforehand! There was a balloonist there and I think Arthur could have stood and watched her for hours! He was mesmerized, and when it came time for his turn he told her he wanted a puppy dog, but when he saw the blue hand pump she was using to fill the balloons he decided that he would settle for that instead. In the end it was the red puppy dog on a leash that she made him that won him over and he proudly walked his dog around the house showing it off for all to see.
Happy Birthday Seth!

Karin,
I love the cookie monster hoodie! Arthur is so lucky to have a talented and loving mother- and I am so proud of you too!
