School Stuff

We spent the summer studying the ocean in science using an awesome book called The Big Green Book of the Big Blue Sea.

We looked at how pollution effects sea creatures.
Here's Fishy in his clean 'ocean'.
And here goes the pollution! Each ingredient we added represented a specific type of pollutant- so it was quite a colorful mix.

YUK!

Another ocean experiment...

Arthur's challenge was to create a barrier in his 'ocean' that could stop the spread of oil from an oil spill.

Barrier in place...

...here comes the oil.

The barrier works!

Now for the second challenge- cleaning up the oil spill.
Arthur tested out some ideas for how to get the oil out of the water. It was a lot harder than he thought it would be!
Then we pulled out the Rice Krispies. Did you know that they actually use something like this to pour on to an oil spill to help clean it? The cereal floats at the surface with the oil and absorbs some of it, so scooping the cereal out pulls out a lot of the oil.
Very cool!

This week was the letter 'C' in preschool. Stella made her own cute caterpillar.

Beautiful!!
