A happy Stella in the back seat! We put her in a new bigger carseat and moved Arthur up to a booster just before our trip and it was so fun to see Stella's face in the car! She seems so grown up now in her forward facing carseat!
This was the view that I liked the best! Arthur has always suffered from a bit of car sickness and has typically thrown up once in the car on a long car ride. So we have learned to always be prepared- ie having a bucket ready, cleaning rags and water on hand, and an accessible change of clothes for him just in case. We were only about two hours away from Orem at the start of the trip when Arthur lost it the first time. Now we will forever remember 'Arthur's overpass' as we like to call it where we pulled off the freeway and mopped up the car and Arthur. He is old enough now to be able to tell us when it is about to happen so I talked to him about letting me know when he feels sick so we can pull the car over and let him out for some fresh air. It worked for the first few times after that, he would ask us to pull over so he could throw up and I was feeling glad that we wouldn't have to clean it up in the car anymore. Then we realized after the first few stops that because he felt so sick so continuously he wanted us to pull over about every twenty minutes. Once he realized that getting out of the car for a few minutes did the trick and meant that he wouldn't have to use the throw up bucket he was hard to convince that the longer the drive took that longer he would feel sick in the end. So we had to just keep going and tell him that we couldn't make anymore stops all the while listening to him tell us how sick her felt- it was awful!! We tried everything we could think of, from little tricks and distracting games, to changing his position in the car, to anti-nausea chews for him and nothing seemed to help. The only saving grace seemed to be switching our driving time from the day to the evening and hoping that he could at least sleep through most of the discomfort.
