It is incredible the amount of festering guilt that accumulates when one ignores one's blog. It is something akin to wearing the same pair of socks too many days in a row, or not washing your hair for a week; you live each day with the hope that you can squeeze one more day out of it and that no one will notice. By now my hope has run dry and I just can't take it anymore. So here you are blogger world- our month of July in a tasty nutshell, a snack size fewer-calories version, a Cliffnotes cheat if you will:
Chris took a trip out to the US at the end of June to interview for potential teaching positions at several Universities in Utah (thank you UVU for hiring us- starting January 3rd Chris will officially become Professor Davey to all those more easily intimidated students). We sure missed having Daddy around, but we spent a lot of time playing in Arthur's sandpit to wile away the hours.
July 1st: Welcome Daddy home, Mamma takes a welcome break!
July 2nd: Head off on a beach trip to Swanage bay, just the three of us and Arthur's Great-grandad (Chris' Grandad).
July 3rd: Apply sunscreen. Enjoy the surf and the lovely sea views, dig in the sand and eat fish and chips on the beach. Apply more sunscreen.
July 4th: More relaxing on the beach. Think about fireworks. Think about patriotism. Imagine fireworks. Wish I was watching fireworks. Eat fish and chips instead.
July 5th: Arthur discovers the joy of running through the sprinklers. We discover the joy of watching Arthur run through the sprinklers.
July 10th: Our official move in date- sign papers at the agency, pick up our new apartment key. Drive our borrowed furniture to the new apartment. Start to unload. Realize upon opening new apartment door that new apartment has not been cleaned from last tenants- new apartment is gross apartment. Get on the phone to the estate agent. Get transferred to another office. Get transferred to another department. Finally get to yell at someone. Nothing can be done until Monday. Fume in gross apartment. Don't move in to gross apartment.
July 12th: Monday, still nothing is getting done. Call estate agent again. Issue more loud complaints. Hear more non-commitments and non-answers, not to mention non-apologies. Still don't move in to gross apartment.
July 13th: Hear from the cleaners. Gross apartment is now clean apartment. Feel relief! Shout songs of joy! Move in to clean apartment.
July 14th-18th: Unpack, organize, put away. Arthur repacks, un-organizes, and takes out. Re-unpack, reorganize, re-put away. Continue this vicious cycle until every last dish, sock, and toy is in its place (this still only lasts for one day).
July 19th-24th: Play at the park (it is right across the street). Take Arthur to the pool (it is right across the street). Meet Chris at the train station and walk home with him (it is just down the street). Play at Springboard House, an amazing community play house for kids (it is right next door). Did I mention how much I love our new location?
July 25th: Teach my first Relief Society lesson as a newly called Relief Society instructor! Yipee!
July 27th: Catch Arthur applying my lip gloss to his eyelids. Watch Arthur pretending to be Mama and delicately doing his make up. Think about telling the story of this moment when Arthur turns 18. Have Chris' parents over for dinner. Make spaghetti and meatballs with a new recipe. Yuck. Throw the new recipe away.
July 28th: Have friends over for dinner. Make favorite recipe for Thai Vegetable Curry. Get so rushed to finish that I forget to add the last three ingredients. Don't even notice. Arthur makes a great friend in Josiah, our friends' soon to be two year old boy. We all sit and watch these two boys run like crazy around the house giggling and playing. Love every minute of it!

Holy cow! So excited! You are coming back! January cannot come soon enough! I have been missing you guys a TON lately! I have the urge to text you funny little things I think of umpteen times a day. And I'm sad every time I realize I can't text you. You'd think after all this time I would remember that I can't just text you. Hmph. Congrats, Chris!
Karin,
I love your stories and sat laughing as you descibed your July month in cliff note version. Thanks for feeling "inspired" to shed the guilt and update your blog. We love you and miss you.
